George Burley is a former football player and manager who played for and managed Ipswich Town.
Biographical[]
Burley was part of the successful Bobby Robson era and stayed at the club for 12 years before leaving in 1985, before returning as manager in 1994, but was unable to keep the club in the Premiership, and was manager whilst Town lost 9-0 to Manchester United, which remains the biggest win in the history of the Premiership. Burley led Town to play offs four times in an eight year reign, in three of them Town lost in the semi-finals, but Town finally got to the final in 2000 and got promoted back to the Premiership, and the following season, Burley was awarded the Premiership's Manager of the Year as he led Town to 5th place in the league.
